Imperial Assault
From Wormhole Sci-Fi MUD Homepage
Imperial Assault was written by Rachel, although it was originally credited to 'Psychedelia Smith', in order to stop players begging for hints. It was Rachel's first attempt at a movie tie-in zone; all previous work had been original material, mostly relating to the colony on Paradoxia.
Imperial Assault hadn't been open for long when it was damaged - as was much of Wormhole MUD - in a hard drive crash, circa 1999. In those days we didn't back up as frequently as we do now, so all the OLC-based 'tweaks' and balances that had been evolved with the assistance of other immortals (mostly Bertha) were lost. Since Rachel had other projects underway at the time of the crash, Imperial Assault was never re-opened.
Work to repair Imperial Assault was carried out during January 2007. It was a slow process, not least because the Wormhole game engine has improved, and we've learned how to do funky new things with it. Given a chance to remodel an earlier work, you take the opportunity to expand it a little, so: about ten new mobiles, forty new objects, four new ships, a few new rooms squeezed in (Hoth was always nudging its 100-room limit, but we found some clever ways around that.)... and it's scripted, for a more interactive experience.
It remains a bitch of an area, though. Something about Hoth (perhaps the extreme cold?) has been found to cause psi powers (and certain devices) to fizzle. It's a fighter's kind of area. If you are a good, dependable hired thug, and you want to join the Empire in eradicating the rebellion, there are considerable rewards to be had.
Just watch out for the wampa ice creatures, okay?
