Anchorhead, Tatooine

Anchorhead is the town where young Luke Skywalker would go, to hang out with his friends. It's seen briefly in the 1977 film, although some of the material was originally in deleted scenes.

With Anchorhead I tried to convey something of Tatooine society, rather than just providing a maze where you can kill everything. (Of course, you can kill everything if you really want to...) The folks you'll find there are worth examining, in terms of their descriptions, their actions and their dress; it became a labour of love.

It's located on Planet Tatooine, created by Ecks, and at just 44 rooms is actually much smaller than the inside of the Jawa sandcrawler that I made a the same time... although the inhabitants are a bit more varied. More Tatooine townships will follow in the future, and Mos Espa can already be visited.

In addition to the town itself, there's a bunker out in the desert, where the Imperial troopers are based. With the troopers, I wanted to provide more than the everyday 'evil guys in sharp uniforms'. Instead, the off-duty troopers are presented as real people, most of whom are unhappy with their current posting. In the same way that Robert Altman's 'Mash' used the Korean war setting to talk about the then-ongoing conflict in Vietnam, my Imperial troopers are meant to reflect the lives of our own soldiers, now serving in Afghanistan and Iraq; they're the 'bad guys' in the perception of some of the locals, but that's only one side of the story.

Enjoy!
